I was dupe by a person known as RAYMOND LAM into paticipating the GLGI and ICC worldwide Mission and finally I discovered out that these are SCAM and do not even trust what they said when you file an objection to CRA.They keep on drag for several years on and on you will end up accumulating more interests plus the principals amount you own.Don not wait settle the tax dues and go to the small claim courts.

I go involved with the Global Learning Initiative in 2005 and received a reassessment from CRA in 2008. They not only disallowed the tax shelter but the cash contribution despite several years of GLGI being accepted as charitable. I received no help what so every from GLGI, which said he it had legal team do do this. I had to file my own notice of objection and did so saying that I should be allowed the cash payment but was willing to pay the other, excluding interest. I pay my instalments early each year, so should not be charged interest. I paid this in full. I also appealed the matter due to the fact that GLGI has been operating for many years and continues to advertise and get charitable donations now. Do you have any advise regarding the matter. I think I am within my rights to demand that they accept the cash payment. Should I get a tax lawyer, would it help when dealing with CRA.

jprenger, I think you need to re-think your definition of "due diligence". Please check out rubberneck's link. CRA has been warning taxpayers for a couple of years that these thinks will be re-assessed. And as you'll see on the link, they've been pretty busy doing that. If they haven't hit you yet, they will. Count on it.

hello,
I have contributed with glgi for the past 2 years and have received my cheque from the gov't each year with no concerns.
I know that it seems too good to be true, but do your due diligence at you will see all is good. I personally visited the charities and see the good work that ICAN does for the people of Canada. Visit some websites and do your homework....I recommend
www.glgi.ca
www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/charities/menu-e.html
www.icanhelps.com
visit a drop in centre
Get back some of your tax dollars.....what would you do with it?

Anyone have any takes on this? I have been approached by a GLGI fundraiser. Sounds like a nice tax shelter, however it appears to have a lot of risk associated with it. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tim,
I have read much lately on GLGI - Global Learning Group Inc and my opinion of these types of investment schemes where you buy low donate high is that they are a sham. Just was wondering what your take on them is?? Check out the related link. Thanks.
